Our Curriculum
Our Preschool curriculum is focused on the following:
- Social Emotional Development
- Cognitive Development - language, oral and written
- Physical Development - Motor coordination (fine and gross)
During the school year, a wide range of academic topics are introduced
in order to foster concept development. Oral development is supported
through reading, story telling, listening and answering questions,
finger plays and class presentations. Social-emotional development is
encouraged throughout the curriculum through free play and structured
activities. In addition, motor development, both gross and fine, is
strengthened through weekly gym classes, outdoor play and other creative
movement exercises. Furthermore, creativity is encouraged through weekly
music classes, daily arts and crafts projects as well as imaginative
play.

Social Skills
Follow directions, use manners, follow class rules and show respect
for others, personal hygiene (bathroom, washing hands, zippers &
buttons, managing backpacks).

Fine Motor Skills
Hold pencil/crayon correctly, use scissors properly, copy or trace
shapes, letters, draw to express ideas, some writing.

Gross Motor Skills
Gym class: hop, jump, skip, catch. Music: clap, use rhythm sticks
and tambourines. Also use building blocks and participate in
playground activities.

Language Skills
Express ideas during circle time, respond to questions, comment on
problems, listen to stories, lessons, repeat new ideas/words and
learn poems and songs. Able to sit attentively, present to
classmates. Create books with recorded and sometimes written
sentences.

Math Concepts
Count, sort, recognize numbers and shapes, measure, estimate follow
and create patterns. Numbers 1 to 20.

Science
Observe simple experiments, weather, seasons, foods, nutrition,
space, water, harvest, growing things, the five senses and
animals/insects.

Social Studies
Learn about self, family, other cultures, holidays, types of
transportation, occupations. Calendar - days, weeks, months, year
and events.

Music
Perform finger plays, songs, poems and dramatic action, dance, use
rhythm instruments.

Art
Learn colors (primary colors & how to make green, purple, etc.),
paste, model with play dough, paint (easel, watercolors, sponge,
print-making), use construction paper, paper bags, plates, paper
rolls, etc.

Cognitive Development
Tell stories and listen, sing simple songs and perform finger plays,
answer questions, follow directions, begin alphabet exposure, number
concepts and matching and sequence building.

Social-Emotional Development
Share and take turns, develop respect for others, participate in
group activities and independent play, develop self respect,
practice personal hygiene/management.

Physical Development
Develop body awareness and senses, enjoyment of outdoor play. Fine
motor skills: arts and crafts, play dough, puzzles,
stringing/stacking. Gross motor skills: skipping and jumping,
throwing and catching.
